Michelle Thomas - Intern Counselor
As someone who was a healthcare worker and nurse for many years in my former career, I have a particular interest in working with clients seeking support for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, adverse life events, and burnout/compassion fatigue - especially in healthcare workers. I strive to be a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental, trauma-informed counselor who creates a safe space where clients can explore, learn, and grow into the best versions of themselves.
I believe in being flexible with my approach to meet each individual's needs. My integrated therapeutic style draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and mindfulness practices. I also aim to pursue training in EMDR. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them discover and establish their own goals, and I support them as they gain the skills and confidence to achieve those goals.
I am a counseling intern working under the supervision of Naomi Briones, LPC, and in the final stages of my Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master's program at University of the Cumberlands.
In addition to my work at RCC, I am an active outdoor enthusiast who loves mountain biking, rock climbing, and exploring desert slot canyons. I also enjoy traveling and immersing myself in other cultures. I am happiest when outside and active, and I love sharing this time with my partner, our fur babies, and my amazing community of friends.
