Elsa Peña, LCSW - Assistant Clinical Director and Counselor
Throughout the course of my career, I have found the primary thing that unites most folks is a search for someone that makes them feel accepted, safe and comfortable as they work through their challenges. Above all, that's my primary focus. I welcome you to have an initial consult with me and if I strike you as a good fit, let's get to achieving your treatment goals!
I primarily work with people facing trauma, daunting life stress, or long-term emotional distress. Clients who come to see me often feel they have gotten "as far as they can" in previous therapy and are hoping to find ways of overcoming areas in which they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unable to make progress.
I have spent the last 15 years treating trauma, addiction, and other mental health concerns with adults and adolescents in inpatient and outpatient settings. I tailor my approach to meet each person's needs using EMDR, trauma-based therapies, IFS, Motivational Interviewing, and ACT, with a hope to engage mind, body, and soul in the therapeutic process.
I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from San Francisco State University and my master’s degree in social work from Portland State University. I began my career in Oregon, where I worked for five years as a mental health therapist and program supervisor serving adolescents and families in substance use treatment. After relocating to Colorado, I spent ten years working with clients in substance use treatment programs, community mental health settings, and private practice.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of clients, from school-aged children to older adults, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I am an EMDR-certified therapist and specialize in trauma and addiction treatment.
