Brad Gross, LAC - First Responder Counselor

I am ardent about the mental health and physical well-being of first responders, recognizing how these affect individuals professionally and personally. I am dedicated to helping members of these communities heal from the past, manage the present, and look forward with hope.

I have a professional background as a Paramedic (Texas), serving 17 years in a variety of environments, including Rural/Urban EMS, Fire Department EMS, and Air Medical. I worked as a Drilling Fluids Engineer on land oil rigs for many years, where my responsibility was well-stability and blow-out prevention. I am keenly aware of the toll that high stress situations have on a person and their family.

I have a passion for working with individuals employed in high acuity environments, who have to be away from home for extended periods of time, who may be facing issues of professional identity loss, relationship difficulties, chronic exposure to trauma, loss, grief, and many other negative experiences, all while maintaining a duty to act.

My approach to therapy is person-centered, direct, and solution-focused, while also valuing the power of humor when appropriate. I have experience with high acuity clients experiencing personality disorders, suicidal ideations, chronic anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, and anger outbursts. I utilize components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I utilize Solution-Focused and Outdoor (walk and talk) Therapy and engage in ongoing training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and specialized intensive certifications around the nuances of working with First Responders .

I am a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC- 24279) under the Supervision of Christina Curry (LPC-22573). I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with Emphasis on Sport and Performance from Grand Canyon University and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University.

When I’m not seeing clients,  I’m exploring the trails on my mountain bike, or hiking/running them, walking my aging Labrador (as tolerated), and finding adventures in this great city and state! Oh, and during football season I’ll be watching my Texas Longhorns (Hook’em Horns!) and Dallas Cowboys!
